MisterMac gave me a book called Stadtbahnbogen – a collection of photographs of the arches underneath the railway lines in Vienna, from which we see an astonishing array of different businesses. We decided to blow away the Christmas cobwebs and have a stroll along the arches underneath U6 and found that most arches in this area have been turned into bars and cafes (one, of course, being the ubiquitous McDonald’s). My favourite was this retro 1950s cocktail bar, but as it was shut, I had to make do with a shot through the window. Other than that, a day of Downton Abbey and Angry Birds – I’m sure there must be a way of combining the two!
