Today’s word – nugacity – is one that will probably find its way into my vocabulary this year. It means: ‘A trifling thing or idea; a frivolity.’ (OED). Although most of the examples show nugacity as an abstract noun, I like the idea of applying it to more tangible objects.
I felt this heart was a good example, because it’s frivolous, worthless, trifling, whimsical and utterly useless – although it is also quite charming, which I’m not sure is implied in the true meaning of nugacity.
