An odd choice of word today – gaseyn, meaning: ‘Marshy ground; a mire, a puddle’ (OED). I say odd, because it’s obsolete, there are only two citations of it (both from the 15th century) and the etymology section uses the word ‘probably’ and ‘perhaps’ rather too often to convince me that the OED knows much about it. I therefore felt that I too could be liberal in my understanding of gaseyn, and get away with a marshmallowy substitution.
Day #82 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by theĀ OED word of the day.
