180514 Balletomane at Abney

180514_LRHangover Hill should have been today’s suggestion in Bleeding London, since the troops were all slightly fragile following last night’s capers. But there is no such street and instead, we tripped to Abney Park cemetery. I was looking for evidence of a balletomane (‘A ballet enthusiast’, OED), but settled for the grave of George Leybourne aka Champagne Charlie – the music hall artist – who flew ‘through the air with the greatest of ease, that daring young man on the flying trapeze’. Well it’s all stagecraft and I’m sure George would have been a balletomane.

Day #138 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by theĀ OED word of the day.
