210714 Aficionado

I never knew that “aficionado” meant: ‘An amateur bullfighter’ (OED). Admittedly this meaning is now defunct, but even the second meaning has tones of bull-fighting. There just weren’t enough hours in the day to seek out bull fights, so I opted for an alternative – cock-fighting. The sharp-eyed amongst you, however, will have noticed that (a) this is a hen (apparently) and not a cock and (b)it’s not fighting, but rather just looking at me somewhat suspiciously. And before the emails about animal rights and cooping hens up pour in, let me re-assure you that it’s only staying in a cage until it gets used to its new surroundings, so it can be trained to return to its shed every night and avoid being the entree for Brer Fox.

Day #200 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by theĀ OED word of the day.
