070914 Amphisbaena on the Warwick Road

Most of the day was spent collecting a few more streets for Bleeding London. I thought I’d fill in all the gaps for SW5, and felt very smug when I’d done so – only to get home and find I”d forgotten Redcliffe Close; so SW5 is finished all bar one. Whilst street-hunting, I was also snake hunting, since today’s word was “amphisbaena”, which – as everyone knows – is: ‘A fabled serpent of the ancients, with a head at each end, and able to move in either direction: retained by the moderns as a poetical conception’ (OED). A shortage of snakes in the Earl’s Court area meant some tangental thinking: We talk about snaking wires, so my next option was to seek out wires. These little beauties were nestling against the wall of Warwick Road (SW5) – or maybe that should be “nesting” if we’re going to stick to the snake metaphor.

Day #246 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by theĀ OED word of the day.
