Whilst mooching around the shops, we came upon one emporium getting ready for Christmas. That was enough to make me “perhorresce” (‘trans. and intr. To shudder (at)’, OED). I do question how long those pine needles will stay on the branches … we usually start hoovering them up within 24 hours of the wretched thing going up. And we won’t be putting ours up until the 24th December!
