Oh where’s Penny when you need her? For today’s word was “philotherian”, which means: ‘A person concerned with or interested in wild animals’, (OED). This poor pigeon is just one of the deformed-foot variety of London pigeon. There are various causes – apparently – of deformed feet, ranging from pesticides being used to deter the birds, through getting tangled in bits of string that cut off the circulation, to standing in their own excrement, which results in bumble foot. Clearly a few more philotherians required to investigate this condition further.

Day #328 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by theĀ OED word of the day.
