011214 Quinzhee Neighbour

It was cold in SW3 today, but not so cold that we need to live in a “quinzhee”, which is ‘A snow shelter of a type originally used by North American Indians, consisting of a mound of snow with a domed chamber dug into it’, (OED). But where quinzhees exist, I’m sure penguins abound. I’m glad to see the shops continue to promote the true meaning of Christmas … And as we’ve seen rather too much Christmas stuff already this year, I have decided not to do an advent calendar; I did agonise about whether I could try and combine the advent calendar with the word of the day and think that’s a step too far. However, for the Chrimbo fans amongst you, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of Santas, snowmen and sparkle before the month is out!

Day #331 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by the OED word of the day.
