“Pampero” – ‘A wind blowing across the South American pampas; spec. a piercingly cold wind which blows from the Andes across the pampas to the Atlantic, accompanied by rain and thunder’, (OED). There was no rain or thunder and so today’s piercingly cold wind was probably not a true pampero. As the mystery of the missing gas meter is still unsolved, I am having to make do; but my industrial sized heaters were today replaced by these, which are great in a small space, but totally ineffective in big, pampero filled spaces. It wasn’t long before the decision was made to set up shop in the local hostelry …
