I thought I knew what “Nativity” meant, but the birth of Jesus is only one meaning and the OED chose the other meaning for the WOTD, namely: ‘Christian Church. The feast of the birth of Jesus (celebrated on 25 December); Christmas Day’, (OED). As I came to this rather late in the day, there was not much left of the feast, save the box of mince pies. I have, however, used some creativity here and added a religious layer. This year has definitely set a new record in terms of absence of nativity scenes (and although I didn’t count them this year, I think Santa tops the reindeer), so imagine my excitement when we disembarked the tram (en route to the feast) and not only walked passed a shrine, but a shrine containing a manger and a baby Jesus (although the inclusion of a tinsel bedecked Christmas tree was rather odd). So today’s pic is a true nativity scene in both senses of the word.
Day #359 of a 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by the OED word of the day.
