“Facilis descensus Averni“. The proper definition is ‘The descent into Avernus is easy’: easy is the descent into hell. Chiefly fig.: it is easy to slip into evil or immoral ways’, (OED). But I’m opting for a modern day equivalent of ‘it’s all going to hell in a hand-cart’ – or rather a supermarket trolley, since they are more popular these days than hand-carts – or comminus ad infernum in plaustro. Not exactly the same meaning, but somewhat easier to photograph – and they both end up in the same place.
