110115 Nakodo

Today’s word was “nakodo”, meaning: ‘In Japan: a person who acts as intermediary in arranging the introduction of parties to a possible marriage (cf. miai n.) and assists in the subsequent negotiations; a person who accepts the formal role of matchmaker at a wedding ceremony whether or not he or she played a role in bringing the couple together’, (OED). We needed a bit of word association with this one … Japanese – whisky, not that MisterMac would ever allow anything other than the original into this household. We’re pretty certain that somewhere along the way, an excess of whisky has been the intermediary for many a marriage, although perhaps not quite in the same way as a nakodo.

Day #11 of the second 365 project, where the daily pic is informed by the OED word of the day.
