The casual observer might think that I’m referring to Lee as my “particeps criminis” (‘An accomplice or partner in crime; an accessory. Also in extended use’, OED), but actually I am the PC here – at least I nearly was. British Gas suggested that I reported the missing gas meter as stolen, then I could get a crime report number, which would bypass all the red tape required to get a new meter. I was somewhat disturbed that this might make me an accessory to something and the local constabulary agreed with me, so it’s back to the red tape.
