Heinrich hates the opera but he is a regular opera-goer, entertaining his unpleasant chums as he strives to climb his way up the slippery pole of the Austrian Government. He thinks most opera is too light-hearted and he applauds the Teutonic works – the grimmer, the better. But tonight, he’s out of luck – at least on the Teutonic front, but on the grim front, the box is checked as Madame Butterfly is playing at the Staatsoper. BTW – I don’t remember a frog prince in Madame B., but it’s the closest I could find.
