I’ve spent much of the day in the editing suite, much coffee drinking (loving these fab little triangular cups) and much contemplation about which images best convey the right message, for a particular staged documentary body of work. I’ve been rather a fan of the genre ever since seeing the brilliantly titled DistURBANces a few years ago, when I was introduced to the work of Dionsio Gonzalez, Ilkka Halso and Reiner Riedler et al. My own theme is (unsurprisingly) Austrian, so the photography days involved a lot of Dirndl, Lederhosen and Edelweiss. And the inevitable happened … after starting out with serious intentions, it only took a guitar and a carpet bag, for the whole project to drift Sound of Musicwards. Sam makes a wonderful Julie Andrews, and as for Mark’s Christopher Plummer … stay tuned. Projectwise, it’s still early days, very much the sketchbook phase, but the more I think about it, there’s a certain appeal to weaving a bit of von Trapp into the final fabric. And what a marvellous excuse for a visit to Salzburg …
